Six Years of Miniatures Part 1

So, I've been at this hobby now for about 6 years now and I've spent a ridiculous amount of time either painting miniatures or playing games with them. Figured it was about time to step back and take a look at what I've amassed in the past 6 years as well as how far my painting skills have progressed.

You're looking at about 800 or so miniatures jammed into these cases with the vast majority of them all painted. This doesn't include another 100-150 board game minis that aren't in these cases some of which are painted some not.

 From Dragons in Warmachine/Hordes........

Stompy robots and knights.....

To Space Marines, Vampires, and Dwarves

And.......... Kitty!

Star Wars Imperial Assault: Royal Guard Champion

Continuing with another board game miniature, speed painted. Been picking up several Imperial Assault minis over the past couple months which are perfect for this. My wife and I really love this game and it really does add a lot to the fun when all the miniatures are painted. Royal Guard Champ is a great model for the core game campaign.

Star Wars Imperial Assault: Han Solo & Chewbacca

Again moving in my sort of usual rhythm for painting. After a big project that takes months I like to take a break and just do some fun speed painting. Board game minis are perfect for this and Star Wars miniatures are really a lot of fun to paint. Painted up these two in about three hours.

Minions: Swamp Gobber Chef Speed Painted

Did this little guy for a quick palate cleanser while working on a much longer project. Speed painted in about 45 minutes. Sometimes wish I could just bring myself to speed paint everything but alas.....
Feels so good to finish a model in one sitting.

Legion: Archangel

Finally!!!
So glad to have completed work on this model! I've spent a ridiculous amount of time working on this one. Easily the most time I've ever spent on any one painting project. I don't think I even want to try and estimate how many hours. It's finished though and I am very happy with how it's turned out. It's certainly among my best work if not thee best.

Let's take a quick look at the progression of this of this project. Here's what this project looked like at the start.

The next three pictures were pulled from the net as I didn't get any shots of my own project until after it was completely assembled and primed.

Assembly and gap filling. The gaps that needed filled were considerable and took a good amount of time. I also magnetized the larger set of wings for easy transport.

Unfortunately this is the first WIP shot that I took of mine. Primed in white, black base coat and first highlight on scales applied using an airbrush.

Onto the blue skin tones and initial highlights. Black areas were masked off and the blues again applied with an airbrush.

Wing colors applied with airbrush

Then began the long arduous process of applying all the brushwork and fine highlights. This took an extremely long time as this is a huge model with so much surface area.

The finished product was many months in the making but it is pretty rewarding to see the end result despite the loooooong road to get there.

Legion: Archangel WIP 2

Finally getting back to putting some more work into this guy and hopefully finishing within the next week or two. You can check out WIP part 1 here in case you missed it before.

It's an amazing model and deserves my best efforts thus it's taking me awhile to get it finished. It can be pretty daunting painting a model this size and knowing that you'll have to put in quite a few hours to make it come out the other side how you envision it.

Here's a shot of my work so far on the wings.

Be sure to check back soon.

Legion: Succubus

This model has been sitting around base coat painted only for well over a year. Finally getting around to finishing a proper paint job. For as much as this model makes it into my lists, it really should have a half way decent paint job. It's not my best but it'll do.
