Legion of Everblight: Nyss Swordsmen and Archers

Over the last couple years Privateer Press has began introducing dual part kits for units that allow you to build either of the two options. Well, being the masochist that I am I decided to take on the challenge of magnetizing the arms belonging to both the swordsmen AND archers. This way I could play the unit as either.

I painted up both the Swordsmen and Archer UA as well in the process.

It wasn't easy and I had to take great care to make this work with such small magnets and small pieces. It ended up turning out pretty good considering.

I utilized a container and color coded it and the bottom of each miniature to keep track of the different set of arms for each one.

Here's some additional shots and closeups.

Star Wars: Imperial Assault 2

This has become one of my favorite board games. We've recently delved into the skirmish mode for this game after finishing the campaign and that's been very enjoyable as well. I may have spoiled myself for future board games incorporating miniatures though; I'm not sure I could ever go back to unpainted minis now. So here's rounding out the rest of the miniatures in the base game.

Stars Wars Imperial Assault: The Heroes

My wife and I have been enjoying Imperial Assault quite a bit lately. Having all the miniatures painted really adds to the enjoyment of the game and painting up Star Wars minis is a lot of fun.

Legion of Everblight: Blighbringer

While everyone and their mom has had this model and been playing the snot out of it for some time, it's taken me a bit longer to pick one up as well as finish painting it. Finally, at long last it is all done. It's a beautifully sculpted model and though it took me forever to finish it, I did enjoy watching it come together.

Star Wars: Imperial Assault

It's been quite awhile since my last post. Had to put some other things first for awhile. Felt like a change of pace to start things back up so I grabbed a few handfuls of the miniatures that come with the Star Wars board game Imperial Assault.
This was a quick and dirty job just to get a decent tabletop finish. I only spent maybe 6-7 hours from start to finish on the 17 miniatures. This is about half of the miniature included with the game. I'll get to the other half at some point but will probably move on to something else in the mean time. They look good enough I guess and will more than suffice for play.

Legion Raek #2

As in my post just before this one, I'm picking up some doubles that I really like in some lists. Fine by me. I love raeks both aesthetically and rules wise. I've been running double raeks in my Vayl 1 list and will likely run them with Abby 2 once I start playing her. Like my recent work on a Ravagore/Scythean, this model was primarily done with an airbrush to get some practice using it more extensively.

The base was done using my usual method that I recently did a tutorial on. However, the foam by itself doesn't support a heavy metal model by itself very well so a little internal support was needed to make the model secure. I've used the plastic rulers that come with the warhammer starter boxes for various hobby uses before and they work well enough here.

I started by placing the model onto my sculpted foam and then outlined where the feet were going to sit with a sharpie and then I cut out a couple areas in the foam where I would attach two plastic supports that would secure the model to the base.

I then glued the red supports to the base. Once those were dry I glued the foam piece to the base with hot glue by sliding it over the supports and into place. I then  pinned two of the raeks feet to the two red supports and glued the model into place. Any gaps between the feet and the foam were filled in using foam putty.

Legion Ravagore/Scythean

Anyone who plays or plays against Legion knows we like to double or even sometimes triple up on our beasts in lists. This is my third heavy beast kit. I only built and painted the Ravagore and Scythean since I don't see myself ever needing three Carniveans but occasionally a third Ravagore or Scythean.
For this model and one other coming up soon in another post, I decided to try and paint the model using primarily my airbrush with minimal brush work. All but the finest highlights were done with the airbrush. I've never really done extensive highlights or much work with my airbrush up to this point. I've mostly just used it for applying base coats but I knew it could be done and I wanted to get some practice and stretch my skills. The end product I feel came out pretty good with some aspects of it I prefer over my normal brush work and some things not so much. It was definitely faster I think that doing all the highlights with a brush. Either way it was a good experience for me.
